Cosmic Wolf (not available)

Ink and metal leaf on paper, mounted on card.
Custom painted wood frame
24 x 24 cm (artwork) - 30 x 30 cm (frame)
June 2020

Story behind the artwork :

This piece was made as a gift for my sister.
I had in mind that i wanted to use the same technique and style as previous artworks (Ivy and Asphodel, namely), but not using a skull or human faces. My sister loves animals, and being out of doors, living free...
What better than a wolf to watch over her?

Here are some work in progress shots, from initial drawing to the final gilding.

from sketch to inking

Lines are inked in in fine pen and the dotwork background has been done around the face.

Dotwork (also called stippling) is complete, the outlines have been thickened where needed. The paper has been cut out and mounted on heavy card.
Then white ink is added for the highlights.

This is where I figured out what needed to be done with the circle.
Also added the colours and secret names in the braiding.

Finished, with the silver gilding and the eyes. I also add a very light wash of India ink to give the illusion of a drop shadow. It really gives the piece more volume.
