Story behind the artwork :
This piece was commissioned by one of my clients, to go with the Metempsychosis I (Flower Child) she had purchased at a show. She asked specifically for a male face and the pentagon; I suggested the leaves be chosen from the Celtic plant calendar and Ogham alphabet.
The plants included are : Holly, Oak, Ivy, Yew, Hazel, Hawthorn, Honeysuckle, Ash and some Ferns.
Here is the (second) drawing I made before committing to the ink lines.
I lost the photos of the process when my phone died. I will maybe retrieve them at a later date… You can check Metempsychosis I(Flower Child) for more process shots. I used the exact same techniques so as to have similar look to the two pieces.
I only chose a different colour for the gilding - copper for Palingenesia.
Why “palingenesia”?
It can have the same meaning as Metempsychosis, that is the transmigration of the soul, or reincarnation.
And here they are side by side in my studio. I’m glad I still had the original Metempsychosis I to have as technical and stylistic reference.
I am looking forward to seeing what their new home will look like!
